MY CAREER PATH
As a student at Michigan State University, I accepted a one-semester internship at a nonprofit organization which was extended to a full year. After graduating, the organization offered me a full time position as marketing and events coordinator. Starting my PR career in the nonprofit sector provides tremendous opportunities for growth and development. I am a team member of a small staff with an even smaller budget yet high expectations. This taps into my creative thinking and problem solving skills as I am given the responsibility to take the lead on events and programs while implementing our communication plan. My skill set has evolved to include communications planning and execution, new/social media, event planning, using content management systems for website updates, writing in Associated Press Style, media relations, and fundraising.
